Not So Pointless Pic Post

Sunday, April 29, 2007
This is the picture that got published in my college literary magazine, Stylus.

"The days come and go like muffled and veiled figures sent from a distant friendly party, but they say nothing, and if we do not use the gifts they bring, they carry them as silently away."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

What Has Been Going on with Me

"He who dies with the most toys is, nonetheless, still dead." - Anon.

"Lawsuit, n. a machine which you go into as a pig and come out as a sausage." - Ambrose Bierce

So I've been going through a lot of things, one event that makes me feel like grieving for a part of myself (it was a very bad day). I also got the publications for which I am published in! I'm trying to decide if I'm going to send them to my father or not. You have already seen one of the pieces, and if you haven't, click here. I wish I could send one of the magazine publications to each and every one of you, because you know I love you and stuff, right? (haha) I may put the other pieces here eventually. They are just a little racy for a blog that is on a family network.

Okay, back to studying for me.

Oh My Goodness! I Met Someone Famous!!!!!

"You get the best out of others when you give the best of yourself."- Harry Firestone

I feel guilty though because I didn't know her. Ann Patchett is a huge author. Since I've been here, I've met her and a Pulitzer winner. I've got to start writing. I mean really writing. Now I've got to go to sleep.

Hey, look at that pic that I took under this post. I really like it. Dare I say, I love it!

You Know I Love You, Right?

"The definition of a beautiful woman is one who loves me." - Sloan Wilson

... And I do love you!
Just checking in with you. I've been busy doing things that have been as productive as running in mud. I have to study my Spanish, but I'm here. Procrastinating my butt off. I deserved to get spanked, but I'm about to hit it right now. I just got back from seeing "Premonition" and it was worth seeing again, something I rarely do. I'm still procrastinating, but I'm thinking in the back of my mind some of the terms I need to know: el negocio is a business, la accionista is a shareholder, la carpeta is a folder, desempenar is to complete a task, el mundo is the world and I'm in a world of trouble for not studying my Spanish right now!

Kay, buh bye.

Feeling Flowery

Tuesday, April 10, 2007
"Be at peace with yourself first and then you will be able to bring peace to others."- Thomas A. Kempis

It's obvious that one day I did nothing but take pictures of azaleas. I'm glad I did. Some are so beautiful to me. It makes me believe in myself. So, you might just get a bunch of pictures like this. I don't feel like going into the negatives about it--I'm still trying to get over it emotionally. Pretty good quote that came up. I'm unsettled, and I don't know what to do about it.

Yes, I'm Still Around ... Well ...

"Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." - Abraham Lincoln

So, what's going on with me? I hate British Literature, at least trying to memorize poets' poems--I got my second exam back in that class and I cried; Journalism's okay, at least I think it is; I have a paper, a presentation, and several journal entries due in my history class--I'm about to work on my part of the presentation now; and Spanish--oh my goodness--I have to have all 14 tenses in my head, formulate sentences better, and a partridge in a pear tree.

That's the reason I've been slacking on my blog, and I'm sticking to it.

On an upnote, I'm thinking about a TTTT for later on today.

You know I love you, right?

A Daily OM Dose of Thought

Friday, April 06, 2007
"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great."- Mark Twain

The Reciprocal Flow Of Abundance
Giving Without Expectations
Since giving and receiving are so intimately intertwined in our lives, we often expect that we can attract abundance by simply conducting ourselves in an openhanded fashion. Yet we find ourselves wallowing in disappointment when our ample generosity is not met with the expected results. The answer to this quandary lies in the expectations that, in part, initially prompted us to give. Though our intention is likely pure, we can unintentionally mar the beautiful experience of giving by focusing on what we will eventually receive in return. When we let go of the notion that we deserve to receive gifts based on giving gifts, bounty can once again flow freely in and out of our lives.

When the gifts you give are laden down with expectations, they cease to be gifts and become units of exchange that you are, in effect, trading for some reward. Thus, the reciprocal laws of the universe err on the side of the giver who shares for the sake of sharing. You may have seen this simple truth at work in your own experience, perhaps when life's busyness prevented you from spending too much time contemplating the results your charitable actions would ultimately have on the lives of others. It was likely then that you received the greatest gifts in return for your kindness. If you have trouble divesting yourself of your expectations, you may need to reflect upon the root of your inability to act in the true spirit of giving. Each time you make a gift, whether spiritual or tangible, ask yourself if there is something you hope to receive in return. You may be surprised to discover that you expect to be repaid with an easy life, financial windfalls, or opportunities.

To integrate this most selfless form of generosity into your life, you will have to let go of your need to be in control. Accepting that while like inevitably attracts like, it typically does so on an unobservable timetable. This can help you stop weighing the gifts you give against those you have received. Giving eventually becomes a profound joy that stands alone, separate from any and all conditions, and you will learn to appreciate the flow of reciprocal abundance as a gift in and of itself.

Ten Things This Tuesday

Tuesday, April 03, 2007
"I belong to Bridesgrooms Anonymous - whenever I feel like getting married, they send over a lady in a housecoat and hair curlers to burn my toast for me." - Dick Martin

My sleeping habits warrant this one.

Ten things I do when I oversleep:

1. Forget to put on deoderant. Thanks goodness I'm not a very smelly baby.

2. Wear my shower shoes to class. They are in style, you know. Why they are called "flip-flops" is still beyond me.

3. I put a cap on. I've forced people to get used to it anyway.

4. I don't make up my bed. I end up getting right back in it as soon as I come back to the room, anyway.

5. Brush my teeth before I go to bed. If my teeth feel particularly plaquey (I'm an English major, I can do that) ...

6. Brush my teeth while I pee. When I don't have time to even pee, I'll ...

7. Hold it until I get to class. To avoid being late, I acknowledge my presence by dropping off my books. Then I R U N.

8. Grab something out of the dirty-clothes bin and put them on. Yes, I do check the funk factor, and usually I'm safe.

9. Sleep in my bra. Well, the real reason I sleep in my bra is because the girls do not like to be free. They get all itchy and floppy and stuff. Ladies, you know what I mean.

10. Starve. It's my punishment for being up late and waking up late.
